Activities Assistant

1 Actvities Assistants needed working every weekend on Alzheimer Unit.  8:00 a.m. - 4:30 pm working hours.

Directs and organizes such activities as sports, dramatics, games, and arts and crafts to assist patients to develop interpersonal relationships, to socialize effectively, and to develop confidence needed to participate in group activities.  Regulates content of program in accordance with patients' capabilities, needs and interests.  Works with Therapy Dept to obtain adaptive equipment for Activities.Instructs patients in relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, concentration, and other activities, to reduce stress and tension.  Maintains sensory stimulation/art and music therapy activity programming. Instructs patients in calisthenics, stretching and limbering exercises individually or in small group activities. Counsels and encourages patients to develop leisure activities and assists with talking book programs for visually impaired residents.  Works with activity directors to compile monthly calendar of events.  Prepares progress charts and periodic reports for medical staff and other members of treatment team, reflecting patients' reactions and evidence of progress or regression.  Reviews resident assessments and program goals, and consults with them on selected cases.  Works with volunteers and students in techniques of recreation therapy and encourages community of involvement within facilities.  Prepares and submits requisition for needed supplies.  Other duties as assigned.
